The file rle21.tar.Z contains Version 2.1 of the r.le programs, a set of 7 programs for calculating some 60 traditional measures of landscape structure from raster maps. If you want to try the programs, download file rle21.tar.Z using "binary" mode, then make a directory $(GISBASE)/src.contrib/UW and move the rle21.tar.Z file into it. Then type "uncompress rle21.tar.Z" followed by "tar xvf rle21.tar" The documentation for the programs is in the "doc" subdirectory. It consists of a 75 page Wordperfect 5.2 file and 6 separate postscript figures that have to be inserted in the Wordperfect document. If you do not have access to Wordperfect (a common word processing software package available in the U.S.A.), look at the README file in the "doc" subdirectory for how to obtain a hard copy. To compile the source code, start GRASS, then type "gmake4.1" while in the $(GISBASE)/src.contrib/UW directory. After compilation is complete, go to $(GISBASE)/src/CMD and type "MAKELINKS.head" to make the programs accesible from any directory. If you encounter compilation problems, send me an E-Mail message or send a message to the GRASS User's List (grassu-list@moon.cecer.army.mil).
