Waiting Room You are in the waiting room. This is where people wait to
see the govenor. Paintings of the countryside dot the walls here and
there. A door to the east leads to the govenor's office and one to the
west to the entry hall. Tasteful French doors open to the courtyard on
the north.

There is an ornamental sword here (on the wall).

There is a beautiful painted fan here.

There is a forign toy here.

There is a tiny egg cup here.

There is a marble bowl (intended as a gift for the govenor) here.

There is a newly upholstered couch here.

Ambassador Zrblm is standing here, looking uncomfortable.

X UPHOLSTER

The upholstery is very cushiony

Ambassador Zrblm is standing here, looking uncomfortable.

SEAT ZRBLM

Ambassador Zrblm smiles and sits down.

TAKE ALL ornamental sword - taken painted fan - taken forign toy - taken
tiny egg cup - taken marble bowl - taken paintings - you can't have
those newly upholstered couch - that's too big to carry Ambassador Zrblm
- I don't think the ambassador would like that

Cortyard East You are standing in the midst of a large gathering of
people. The usually calm courtyard has been transformed into a sort of
outdoor ballroom. On the flagstone area in the center people dance
around past the red-purple trumpet flowers. To the north a band plays.
On the east side, near the white fence, is a table full of goodies and
several chairs. The air is full of the flowers' perfume and the sound
of folks chatting.

> LISTEN FOLKS

Mostly the latest gossip, nothing really interesting

> DRAW SWORD

One of the folks approaches you, "This is a civilised party, there'll be
none of that here." Sheepishly, you put the sword away.

> WAVE FAN

That's much more like it.

One of the men asks you to dance.

> DANCE ABOUT

You dance around the flagstone area for a while. Eventually the song
comes to an end and he sweeps you off on the east side. Pleasantries
are exchanged, and he goes to dance again with someone else.

Courtyard West Here there is a little more room to walk around. Near
the flagstone is a long table with various things to eat on it.
Scattered about the lawn are smaller round tables and lots of chairs.
A white fence (which you painted just recently) with an iron gate
seperates the main area of the courtyard from a vegtable garden. A few
men have affixed a dartboard to the fence and are playing darts, making
several holes in and otherwise marring the fence.

On the small table nearby is a vial of a primative anesthetic.

There is a duck here, looking for scraps.

The bucket of white paint is here.

> PAINT FENCE

One of the men walks up to you, his young face apoligetic. "I couldn't
make a lady like you work like that, I'll repaint it." The other men
move the dartboard over to the gate and wait impatiently for their
friend. The first man continues to try to coax the task from you, "You
can take my turn, I'm next."

The duck is wandering near the fence.

> TAKE NEXT TURN

You walk over to the other men, one of them shrugs, another hands you
three darts. On by one you launch them at the dartboard. The first
sails over and into the vegtable garden, the second one flies way to the
right, solidly striking the fence (and making a deep hole) and the third
falls short, hitting the ground in front of the gate, narrowly missing
the duck.

Two of the men look away, one looks skyward, and a stranger suggests
sedation.

The duck looks very ruffled.

> SMOOTH DUCK

The duck doesn't look so ruffled now.

> DOWN ANESTHETI

I don't think that was such a good idea. You are getting very dizzy.

You are feeling very tired.

You fall down.

Open area You are in an open area. Mist creeps along the white floor.
To the southwest is a wall with a strange door in it. Everywhere else,
nothing as far as the eye can see. Columns supporting nothing divide
the rest of the landscape neatly into the other compass directions but
they all look rather the same to you.

There is a stone plover egg stand in front of you.

There is a gold plover egg stand to the west of the stone plover egg
stand.

There is a marble plover egg stand to the east of the stone plover egg
stand.

There is a small maze here.

There is a mouse carrying a thorn through the maze.

I you are carrying: a butter knife a painted fan a foreign toy a plover
egg stand a small hammer a pocket watch a blue dress (which you're
wearing) a corset, (to make you look trim) (which you're wearing)

An indistinct figure walks by, and hands you a muffin.

> EAT IT (the muffin)

Delicious!

Hidden inside the muffin is a small key.

> UNLOCK DOOR (with the key)

You unlock the sw door. Before you can do anything else, it is pushed
open. A huge lion walks in.

The lion glances at you briefly.

> SWITCH PLOVER EGG STAND ON EAST

You swap your plover egg stand with the marble one.

Seeing you do this, the lion growls menacingly.

> SWING KNIFE LION

The lion has no patience for your threats.

The lion is getting angrier!

> PRAY

You pray.

Suddenly the lion gets a funny look on his face. "Hey!" he says.
"You remind me of that Daniel guy."

The lion walks away.

The mouse has solved the maze!

> GET MOUSE

The mouse sqirms to get free of your grasp.

> Z

The mouse struggles free and darts northwest.

> NW

Pond room You are in an overgrown garden. Vines climb up white stone
columns and plants spill over onto the walk. Sunlight shines through
leaves overhead. A large pond with lilly pads dominates the scene.

There is a sleeping fish here.

> WAKE FISH

The fish appears a bit groggy for a while and then remembers his manners
and invites you in for a swim.

> SWIM

You dive in the water and swim with the fish.

After a while the fish leads you into a cave, in which is a
well-appointed living room. You slump down in an armchair.

Fish's Living Room (from the armchair): This is a tastefully decorated
living room, and surprisingly large. The walls are comfortably dark and
the furniture well upholstered. It has just the right amound or red
things.

There is a small table here, in front of the armchair.

There is a red book here (on the small table).

The fish hands you a large drink.

> DRINK DRINK

Very refreshing. But, it's too big for you to finish. I guess you
just don't drink like a fish.

READ (the red book)

The book is a dictionary. On the inside of the front cover you see a
card that indicates that it is checked out from a library at school.

> LOOK UP DRESS

Dress (n.) a garment worn by a woman. It consists of a bodice and a
skirt sewn together.

You glance and your attention is drawn to that watch. Suddenly you
notice the time. You excuse yourself, explaining that you really must
go up for air. The fish understands.

You let yourself out. Somehow you get turned around and wind up coming
up somewhere else.

Guard's nook You are in a small room off of a short corridor leading
inside and outside. Outside there is a place for a guard to stand.
Beyond that, you can see what might be a canal, an empty boat sails
past.

There is a grey smock here.

There is a washtub full of water here.

There is a cot here.

There is a light on a pole (leaning against the wall).

There is an unidentifiable stringed instrument (with only one string)
here.

There is a mirror here (on the far wall)

There is a large wooden box here.

There is a roll of wrapping paper here.

There is a book here labeled "boat reservations"

There is an apple here, it looks kind of dull.

The help man is standing nearby, looking helpful.

> BOOK SHIP

You open the book, inside is a list of times when the boat is already
reserved. The book is full.

The help man shrugs.

> PACKAGE PRESENT BOWL

You place the marble bowl on the plover egg stand, in the groove where
the egg would sit, and put both in the wooden box. You wrap up the
entire package.

> DROP TOY

The help man picks up the toy and starts fiddling with it.

> SLEEP

You already are!

PLAY STRING PICK

Boing!

> POLISH APPLE

The apple looks all shiny now

The help man watches you. "oooh, neat."

The help man goes back to doing nothing.

> EYE MIRROR

You look in the mirror, and you look back.

> POSE

You strike a pose in the mirror, it's kind of uncormfortable in your
corset.

> UNDO TRIM CORSET

You feel much better now.

Your dress doesn't look right.

> PUT GREY ON BLUE

You put on the grey smock over the blue dress. That's passable.

It's getting dark.

> STAKE LIGHT (first taking the light on the pole)

You drive the pole into the ground outside. The lantern casts its
light about the area of the guard station.

The help man announces cheerfully "I could have done that."

> FIRE HELP

The help man trudges away.

> MAN STATION

You stand at the guard's station. As the night wears on, time seems to
go by more slowly, even your watch is getting slower.

> STOP WATCH

It seems like time stands still.

> XYZZY

Everything spins around and you wake up.
