This game is intended to be part of an introduction to interactive
fiction teaching unit for 4th and 5th graders. As such, it is supposed
to be simple and, in terms of difficulty, I was aiming at something
between Cloak of Darkness and Bear's Night Out.

There are a lot of locations and objects in the game but most are just
for entertainment and exploration. Only a small number of tasks are
actually required to `win' the game, but there are a lot of fun things
to explore and do on the way.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
HINTS

The primary tasks you will need to perform are:

I. get into the maintanence room
II. unlock the trap door (to the roof)
III. get off the roof

I. Getting into the maintanence room
   A. The maintanence room requires a door code to unlock it via a keypad
      1. the door code is on the bulletin board in the office (look through glass)
         a. the door code is too far away to read
         b. you can bring it closer with a telescope
            i. you will need a makeshift screwdriver to get the telescope
ii. a butter knife makes a good flathead screwdriver
iii. there are lots of butter knives in the cafeteria
         c. while holding telescope look at door codes
      2. Operating the keypad
         a. push the keys one digit at a time
            i. example: push 3 key, push one key,...
            ii. the code is 1-3-7

II. Unlocking the trap door
   A. A key for the trap door is in the janitor's locker
      1. you will need the locker combination in order to open it
         a. a poster near the councilor's office gives you a suggestion
         b. the plaque on the locker tells you the janitor's name is Joe
         c. the banner in the cafeteria tells you that someone named Joe is 50 today
         d. the desk calendar in the library tells you today's date
         e. Joe the Janitor's birthday is 10/28/52
         f. see what number the dial is pointing to, and figure out what direction
and how much to turn the dial for 10-28-52.
            i. example: turn dial right(or clockwise) 10

III. Getting off the roof
   A. You will need some rope
      1. There isn't any rope, so you will have to make some
         a. there is a bin full of fabric scraps in Home Ec
         b. tie the scraps together
         c. now you have a rope
   B. You will need to tie the rope to something secure
      1. There is a vent pipe under a dome-shaped cover on the roof
         a. the cover is secured with a screw
         b. you can't turn the screw because it's too rusty
         c. put some oil on the screw to make it easier to turn
            i. there is some valve oil in the cabinet in the Band Room
         d. now you can turn the screw with the butter knife
         e. open the dome to reveal a vent pipe
      2. Tie the rope to the vent pipe
   C. When the rope is secured, lower the free-end

FOR FUN

There is a whole school to explore and have fun in. If you haven't, here
are some things to try:

While in the Library, ask grandparents about Ed Sullivan
try hug, kiss, ask, tell, examine grandparents.

Examine the model airplanes in the Science Room

Play with the Van de Graff generator, also in the Science Room

Check out the cabinets in the Biology and Chemistry Rooms

Play the piano in the Band Room (repeatedly)

Shoot some baskets in the Gym (make two points)

Explore behind and under the stage in the Auditorium

Check out the hot rod in the Auto Shop

Look at the assignment poster in the English Room

Try the hot tub and other ameneties in the Teacher's Lounge

Make yourself a turkey sandwich in the Home Ec Room

Play a computer game in the Computer Lab

If you are a Matrix fan, try taking or bending a spoon in the Cafeteria

Try breaking some windows in the hallways

Look in your locker

Climb down rope while holding school property
